Note: Mobile device refers to the electronic device with  
Bluetooth® wireless technology that you will be using for  
navigation. A mobile device can be a laptop or notebook computer,  
or a handheld device or mobile phone with Windows Mobile  
software, Symbiansoftware, or Palm OS® software.

Install the Battery  
1. Locate the black or gray lithium-ion battery.

2. With your thumbnail, pull the release tab toward the edge of the  
case. Remove the battery cover.

3. Locate the metal contacts on one end of the battery. Insert the  
battery so the metal contacts match up with the metal contacts  
inside the battery compartment. Press the battery down into  
place.  
4. Replace the battery cover by inserting the tabs into the notches.  
Press the door closed; the release tab locks the cover in place.

Charge the GPS 10x Receiver  
Charge the battery before you use the GPS 10x receiver.  
• Flashing Yellow Green: charging in progress  
• Solid Yellow Green: battery is charged  
• Flashing Orange: low battery  
1. Plug the small end of the power cable into the  
mini-USB connector on the end of the GPS 10x  
receiver.  
• Solid Orange: faulty battery or system error  
2. Plug the other end of the power cable into an  
available power outlet in your vehicle.  
Pairing the GPS 10x  
Note: Refer to your mobile device’s documentation  
for specific instructions about enabling the Bluetooth  
wireless technology and connecting to devices.  
You can use the GPS 10x receiver while you are  
charging it. It takes about four hours to charge the  
battery. A fully charged battery lasts about 22 hours.  
1. Ensure that the GPS 10x receiver is within 30 feet  
(10 meters) of your mobile device.  
If you need to replace the battery, use a Garmin lithium-  
ion battery pack (010-10840-00) or a compatible cell  
phone battery, such as a Nokia BL-5C.  
2. Turn on the GPS 10X and your mobile device and  
enable the Bluetooth component.  
3. Use the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device  
to search for the GPS 10x and connect to it.

Press and hold the Power button to turn the 10x on.  
4. After connecting to the GPS 10x, you may need  
to make note of the COM port number that the  
Bluetooth software has assigned to the GPS 10x  
and use it in your navigation software.

After your device and the GPS 10x receiver have  
established a connection, the blue LED on the receiver  
begins blinking slowly. If the link between your mobile  
device and the receiver is broken for fifteen minutes,  
the receiver turns off to conserve power.

To communicate using Bluetooth® wireless technology,  
the GPS 10x receiver must be within approximately 30  
feet (10 meters) of the mobile device.

To receive satellite signals, place the GPS 10x receiver  
where it has a clear view of the sky.

Open the navigation software on your mobile device.  
(If necessary, specify which COM port to use for the  
GPS 10x.) Check that the Blue LED on the GPS 10x  
receiver is slowly flashing blue, indicating a wireless  
connection. Go outdoors to an open area, away from  
tall buildings and trees. Acquiring satellite signals may  
take a few minutes.

use voice prompts when possible. Do not input destinations, change  
settings, or access any functions requiring prolonged use of your  
mobile device’s controls while driving. Pull over in a safe and legal  
manner before attempting such operations.  
• The navigation software is designed to provide route suggestions.  
It is not designed to replace the need for driver attentiveness  
regarding road closures or road conditions, traffic congestion,  
weather conditions, or other factors that may affect safety while  
driving.  
• Do not leave the GPS 10x exposed to a heat source or in a high  
temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To  
prevent damage, remove the GPS 10x from the vehicle or store it out  
of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box.  
• Observe the following temperature ranges:  
Battery Powered: 14°F to 140°F (-10°C to 60°C)  
Externally Powered: -22°F to 140°F (-30°C to 60°C)

battery.

charges prepaid, to any Garmin warranty service station.

provided by the local in-country distributor and this distributor provides

be returned to the Garmin service center in the United Kingdom, the United  
States, Canada, or Taiwan for service.  
Garmin retains the exclusive right to repair or replace the unit or software  
or offer a full refund of the purchase price at its sole discretion. SUCH
