IMPORTANT NOTES
Additional Precautions
In addition to the items listed under “USING
THE UNIT SAFELY” on page 2 and 3, please
read and observe the following:
• Do not play back sine waves or other continuous
tones at high volume.
Doing so may damage your amp and/or speakers.
• Use a reasonable amount of care when using the
unit’s buttons, sliders, or other controls; and when
using its jacks and connectors. Rough handling can
lead to malfunctions.
Placement
• Using the unit near power amplifiers (or other
equipment containing large power transformers)
may induce hum. To alleviate the problem, change
the orientation of this unit; or move it farther away
from the source of interference.
• When connecting / disconnecting all cables, grasp
the connector itself—never pull on the cable. This
way you will avoid causing shorts, or damage to the
cable’s internal elements.
• This device may interfere with radio and television
reception. Do not use this device in the vicinity of
such receivers.
• To avoid disturbing your neighbors, try to keep the
unit’s volume at reasonable levels. You may prefer to
use headphones, so you do not need to be concerned
about those around you (especially when it is late at
night).
• Noise may be produced if wireless communications
devices, such as cell phones, are operated in the
vicinity of this unit. Such noise could occur when
receiving or initiating a call, or while conversing.
Should you experience such problems, you should
relocate such wireless devices so they are at a greater
distance from this unit, or switch them off.
• When you need to transport the unit, pack it in
shock-absorbent material. Transporting the unit
without doing so can cause it to become scratched or
damaged, and could lead to malfunction.
• Be sure to avoid inserting your fingers in the bass
reflex portswhen transporting or moving the
speakers, as your fingers maybecome wedged and
stuck in the ports.
• Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, place it
near devices that radiate heat, leave it inside an
enclosed vehicle, or otherwise subject it to temper-
ature extremes. Excessive heat can deform or
discolor the unit.
• When moved from one location to another where the
temperature and/or humidity is very different,
water droplets (condensation) may form inside the
unit. Damage or malfunction may result if you
attempt to use the unit in this condition. Therefore,
before using the unit, you must allow it to stand for
several hours, until the condensation has completely
evaporated.
Copyright
• When exchanging audio signals through a digital
connection with an external instrument, this unit can
perform recording without being subject to the
restrictions of the Serial Copy Management System
(SCMS). This is because the unit is intended solely
for musical production, and is designed not to be
subject to restrictions as long as it is used to record
works (such as your own compositions) that do not
infringe on the copyrights of others. (SCMS is a
feature that prohibits second-generation and later
copying through a digital connection. It is built into
MD recorders and other consumer digital-audio
equipment as a copyright-protection feature.)
Maintenance
• For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry
cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with
water. To remove stubborn dirt, use a cloth impreg-
nated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. After-
wards, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a
soft, dry cloth.
• Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of
any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration
and/or deformation.
• Do not use this unit for purposes that could infringe
on a copyright held by a third party. We assume no
responsibility whatsoever with regard to any
infringements of third-party copyrights arising
through your use of this unit.

When the USB cable is connected, approximately 15 seconds (or more) may be required for the
MA-1EX to be recognized.
Is the USB cable connected correctly?
Make sure that the MA-1EX and computer are connected correctly by the USB cable.
Can USB be used on your computer?
Refer to the owner’s manual for your computer, and make sure that it is able to use USB.
Does your computer or USB hub have sufficient power supply capacity?
The MA-1EX cannot be connected if insufficient power is supplied to it. Check whether one of the
following cases apply.
If you are using the MA-1EX with a notebook computer that is running on its battery, operation may be
unreliable with some models of computer. If this is the case, connect the AC adaptor to your notebook
computer.
The power conservation mode of your computer may limit the power that is supplied to USB. Check the
settings of your computer.
In some cases, the MA-1EX cannot be used with a bus-powered hub (a hub that does not contain a power
supply). Please use a self-powered hub (a hub that contains a power supply).
Does your computer meet the USB specifications?
If you are using a computer that does not meet the USB specifications (such as a homemade computer),
operation may be unstable. In such cases, you may be able to solve the problem by connecting a USB hub
that contains a power supply.
•
•
Could other USB devices be connected?
When installing, all USB devices other than the MA-1EX should be disconnected from your computer.
If you have connected the MA-1EX to an external USB hard disk, please connect the MA-1EX directly to a
USB connector on the computer itself.
•
•
•
Could other applications or resident software (such as a virus checking program) be running?
Installation may not occur correctly if other programs are running. Be sure to close all other programs
before installing.
Are the power conservation settings of your computer turned off?
If power conservation settings are turned on for your computer, disable these settings. (For details on how
to disable them, refer to the owner’s manual of your computer.)
Is there enough free space on your hard disk?
Delete unneeded files to increase the amount of free space.
After deleting the file(s), empty the recycling bin.

user with administrative privileges, such as Administrator.
You are asked for the driver file even though you installed the driver
•
Did you connect the MA-1EX to a different USB connector than the one you used when installing
the driver?
If your computer or USB hub has two or more USB connectors, and you connect the MA-1EX to a USB
connector to which you have not previously connected it, this dialog box may appear even though you
have already installed the driver.
Install the drivers once again as described in “Getting Connected and Installing Drivers English” (p. 6).
This is not a malfunction.
The MA-1EX Driver Is Not Installed Correctly.
Use the procedure described in “Deleting the USB Audio Device driver” (p. 29) to delete the USB Audio
Device driver installed in your computer, and install the drivers once again as described in “Getting
Connected and Installing Drivers English” (p. 6).
Check whether there is an item named “Unknown Device” in “Other devices” or in “Universal Serial
